The American Geophysical Union has chosen 60 new Fellows, including Rob Clayton, Professor of Geophysics. Since the American Geophysical Union (AGU) established its Fellows Program in 1962, the organization has elected outstanding members as Union Fellows. This special honor recognizes scientific eminence in the Earth and space sciences. It acknowledges Fellows for their remarkable contributions to their research fields, exceptional knowledge, and visionary leadership. Only 0.1% of AGU membership receives this recognition in any given year.

The American Geophysical Union has named Zhongwen Zhan, Assistant Professor of Geophysics, as the recipient of the Keiiti Aki Young Scientist Award for 2016.
Established in 2008, the Keiiti Aki Young Scientist Award recognizes the scientific accomplishments of young scientists in the field of seismology. The award is for recent graduates with a Ph.D. degree awarded in the three year period prior to January 1 of the year of the award presentation.

The American Geophysical Union names Mark Simons, Professor of Geophysics, to the William Bowie lecture series. The Bowie Lecture was inaugurated in 1989 to commemorate the fiftieth presentation of the William Bowie Medal, which is named for AGU's first president and is the highest honor given by AGU. Bowie lecturers in the list below are denoted by asterisks.
These awardees/lecture recipients represent some of the most innovative minds in their fields. We recognize their continuing meritorious work and service toward the advancement and promotion of discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity.
